Online Course: Radiation Awareness (limited access - June 2 to June 12)
Enrollment opens up on Monday, May 12, 2008 and will close at the end of  business on Friday, May 23  - no exceptions. 

COURSE DESCRIPTION: The goals of this course are to help you understand
the basics of radiation, the proper actions you can take to protect
yourself from the effects of radiation, and the ability to recognize the
various emergency situations where you may encounter radiation and
radioactive materials. This course is designed to meet the Awareness
Level competency training requirements of the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration regulations contained in 29 CFR 1910.120. The
information presented is based on the materials contained in the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Independent Study Radiological
Emergency Management (IS-3) course.  Details...

Participants can attend one, two, or all of the sessions, but must RSVP in advance.

CEU Marathon - Entire Day Agenda (9a-5 or 6pm):

  • 9am     Universal Precautions, et al.
  • 10am  Cardiology Review
  • 11am  EMS at the Fire Scene
  • 12pm  EMS Game Shows  ** Lunch will be served during a time of fun and chances to win!  These are all MS PowerPoint games.  Will be team based.
    • EMS JEOPARDY
    • EMS WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE?
    • ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A FIFTH GRADER
  • 1-2pm OUTSIDE – MOCK WOODED EXTRICATION
    • This class is mostly outside performing EMS skills along with Spencer Fire Department personnel during a simulated deep woods trauma requiring extrication. 
    • First 90 minutes:  Review SFD equipment available to EMS during calls, and their function before the drill sessions begin. 
    • Last 2.5 hours:  Outside during simulated event, using equipment.
    • Recap of equipment and use, questions and answers.
